Through the Spectrum – the voice of an autistic boy
Through the Spectrum is written for my 9-year old Godson who has Autism. His mother, my longtime good friend, was going through an awful divorce where she was forcefully and unwillingly separated from her son. I couldn’t sleep over the situation imagining what they both were going through. I thought especially about all my friend did to help her son flourish with his disorder and how special he is. He has such a gentle and caring soul and sees the world in a beautiful way. I wrote ‘Through the Spectrum’ through his eyes. All proceeds are being donated to Autism Speaks.
THROUGH A SPECTRUM
VERSE 1:
When I was 2 years old
They couldn’t figure out what was wrong with me
You talked to every doctor you could
Tried to help me
You opened the door
When the world shut me out
You showed me how I
Didn’t need to be more
You turned on the light
And taught me to smile
I just see things a different way
CHORUS:
I CAN SEE THE WORLD THROUGH A SPECTRUM
EVERYWHERE A RAINBOW LIKE AN ANTHEM
WHEN THEY TRY TO SEE THROUGH MY POINT OF VIEW
THAT’S WHEN THEY WILL SEE THE COLORS TOO
VERSE 2:
They tried to take you from me
Policeman said it was for my safety
They believed my daddy’s lies
Tried to hurt me
When you’re the only one who knows me
A mother’s love is what showed me
CHORUS:
I CAN SEE THE WORLD THROUGH A SPECTRUM
EVERYWHERE A RAINBOW LIKE AN ANTHEM
WHEN THEY TRY TO SEE THROUGH MY POINT OF VIEW
THAT’S WHEN THEY WILL SEE THE COLORS TOO
BRIDGE:
And I see everyone is beautiful
I feel the pain inside your heart
I see everything is luminal
Like a band of colors
CHORUS:
I CAN SEE THE WORLD THROUGH A SPECTRUM
EVERYWHERE A RAINBOW LIKE AN ANTHEM
WHEN THEY TRY TO SEE THROUGH MY POINT OF VIEW
THAT’S WHEN THEY WILL SEE THE COLORS TOO
THROUGH A SPECTRUM
